Direction-Social Democracy (SMER) - Bratislava, 2010
The text reads: "They gave power to the SMK, they will do it again!" (the previous Mikuláš Dzurinda government had included the Hungarian party SMK in the ruling coalition), "Stop the coalition SDKU-KDH-SMK!", "Vote for SMER - Social democracy". This billboard was used in the last week of the 2010 campaign and presented voters with a stark warning - vote for SMER, or the Hungarian party SMK will form part of the ruling government again. This playing of the ethnic Hungarian card against SDKU was criticised by Radičová as dirty politics that questioned the intelligence of voters. Perhaps SMER also used this anti-Hungarian message in a push to attract some of the nationalist voters who would otherwise vote for the extremist SNS.
